During the placement the student gets supervision from a company counsellor and a supervisor from school.

The company counsellor
The student should get a counsellor from the company who can provide professional supervision during the placement. The task of the company counsellor is to ensure that the students do make every possible effort, and is put in a position to achieve the traineeship objectives. He or she will give feed back on the functioning of the trainee within the company, the progress of the assignment, and the progress on the two projects. Usually the time spent on supervision is amply compensated by activities performed by the student.

In practice, it has been shown that the most efficient means of achieving these objectives is a weekly discussion between counsellor and student, at a fixed time. At the start of the period these discussions will take more time then later on in the traineeship.

The student should thoroughly prepare these meetings by preparing the agenda and by making sure that the counsellor is well informed about the progress of the student.

Agenda items which should regularly recur are:
  • assignment (progress; bottlenecks, planning);
  • projects (efforts and results; planning);
  • functioning within the company (independence; social skills; working in a team; etc.)

In evaluating the introductory placement, the judgment of the company counsellor will be taken into account in an advisory capacity.

In evaluating the final placement, the judgment of the company counsellor will be taken into account;

The school Supervisor
The trainee will be supervised by a lecturer from school.

The supervisor's tasks are :

  • to discuss the work plan with the student . The work plan has to be approved by the supervisor;
  • to discuss the progress of the assignments and the projects with the student;
  • to keep in touch with the company counsellor to check on the student progress.

Contacts take place by either by E-mail, letter, telephone or fax
